Bald Eagles

We heard about a nest of bald eagles on TV today so we went to check it out. They are in the woods on Hwy. 105 just north of where Hwy 1135 comes into 105. They are on the west side of the highway off a bit into the woods but, if you go there will be folks with binoculars and cameras on the side of the highway so it’s easy to find.

We saw the nest and people told us the eagles have been in that area for the last 4 years. They are in a good spot for building on to the top of the nest the way eagles do, because the limbs are forked off in about 3 different ways. The nest looks like a pile of sticks.

I was looking at it through binoculars and saw what looked like a styrofoam cup and then it moved and I realized it was a bird. We watched the head turn for the longest while listening to people talk about how the male flew off this way, and the female did this other thing, and one came to the nest with a snake, and the babies were seen….

Finally, I asked a man if they were more active at certain times. He said he wasn’t sure. As I stood there, watching the mother bird’s head turn, trying to decide whether to stay or leave, she got out of the nest and stood on the edge of it. After a bit of wiggling and stretching she flew off to a different tree and perched on a branch.

Then after a while the dad flew in with groceries and we got to watch him feed the babies. I couldn’t believe how broad his head looks from behind. That is one big bird!

Mom flew back over to the nest a few minutes later. She got settled in the nest and dad kept feeding and I asked Ricky if he was hungry now that we watched eagles eat lunch. So, we came home and got Carly and went to Tacos La Bamba.

You never know what’s going to happen when you get up in the morning.

Flirty Old Folks

We had a coupon for a free hamburger today…buy a combo, get the freebie. Anyway, Ricky and I went and, yeah, I ate cow. I don’t think I should have, I really don’t want to eat too much meat…but I was hungry, but that’s not the point.

I noticed an elderly man working at this place. Then I noticed a group of elderly ladies. I started thinking about how when these folks were young, I bet the young gals went to the hamburger joint to flirt with the cute guys who worked there.

Then I wondered if they would flirt with the old fellow. I figured they wouldn’t though. If they are single, they are probably content with things as they are. They like eating when they are hungry, and watching what they want to watch on TV, and they don’t want to wash some ol’ man’s  socks and underwear.

Then I wondered if HE would flirt with them. I think he tried. He was servicing the straws and napkins and they were right by him. He kept looking over their way, but I don’t think they knew he was alive.

So, when you go to the fast food place – if you dare eat that stuff – notice whether or not the ol’ men working there try to flirt with the little ol’ ladies.

Oh. I noticed after I had eaten my hamburger that they have a Veggie Burger on the menu. I’ll prob’ly get mad cow disease…
